The thyroid

(Week 14)

I suffered from the thyroid since I was child. When I was 9 years old I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism but some doctors told me that probably I could have been born with this condition, but until now nobody has been able to verify it.

Basically the thyroid is a gland ubicated in the throat, It is a gland that generates hormones which are responsible for several basic functions of our body as the weight control.

When the thyroid doesn’t work well, most of the times is evident in your physical and mental health. The most common symptoms are the hair loss, the increase or loss of weight, lack of concentration and others, but it depends of your organism and the severity of the disease. It could be hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, both affect the weight, the heart rate and mood of a person, but now i’m not going to explain that in a medical words, I just want to share my experience.

I suffered from hypothyroidism which is the most common, and the most evident symptoms that I had was the dry skin, the hair loss, muscle pain and emotional instability. The problem was those symptoms were also common in my growth stage and for that reason some doctors didn’t pay enough attention to that.

It is a disease that doesn’t have cure but it can be controlled and treated with a pill to have a healthy and a «normal» life, obviously I must have good habits too as exercising and eating healthy. I’m so responsable with that. Also I must take a pill every day for the rest of my life to control the hormones in my organism, but although the thyroid is controlled, it affects me in some things. My skin is still dry and i’m so emotional, sometimes things and situations affect me more than they should. But I have been learning how to deal with that and how to understand my organism and this disease.

Things that make me feel really happy

(Week 14)

Most of the times I’m really happy and I spend almost all the time of my days laughing, but there are many things that specially make me feel good than others.

  • Dance

I love the music, and the best way for me to enjoy it is dancing. I like to dance everything but what I like the most is merengue and bachata! For me it doesn’t matter if I dance alone or with someone else, I enjoy to dance anyway. Dancing helps me to relieve stress and to feel alive.

  • Make up

As I said in a previous post, I love make up and I practiced it in my free time because it disconnects me from the world and distracts me from the problems.

  • Stay with dogs

I like animals, specially the dogs. They transmit me a lot of tenderness and love, even more if they are puppies. If i’m not near a dog, I see pictures of animals and that makes me happier.

  • Be in a rooftop

I like heights and I really like to stay in roofs because when I was there I feel relaxed and with a lot of peace. Also I like the view and I could spend many hours watching the sky. I like the rooftop of the block 33 in the University and one of my favorite plans is to be there with my friends having an «existential talk».

  • Amusement parks

I enjoy a lot this kind of parks because as I said before, I like heights. I consider myself as a «extreme» person because I ride in all the attractions and I don’t feel fear. Conversely, I feel so excited and with adrenalin.

My art

(Twelfth week)

Some entries back I talked about one of my hobbies, in this occasion I’m going to talk about other thing I really enjoy to do, but I consider it as my art. It is makeup and it’s an important thing in my life, but not in a superficial way. I love it because it is one of the ways in which I can express myself and with the makeup I can let my creativity and imagination fly.

On the other hand, I love the power that it brings to people, I like to notice how people feel better with makeup and my skin bristles when I saw the transformations in which people cry when they look themselves in the mirror with a good makeup.

I think makeup is a good option to raise the self-esteem, but the problem is that people usually depend a lot of that, and for example they feel ugly without makeup. For me the important thing is to love ourselves anyway, and to use makeup like a way to stand out our features not to hide who we really are.

I have a small collection of makeup that I have been increasing bit a bit also with the help of my family and friends. They have supported me a lot; in March my family gave me an auto-makeup course and I loved it because I learned and improved a lot. Now I’m not an expert with makeup but when I use it I do it with a lot of passion, and I think this is the most important thing when you are doing something.

This is my collection, and it makes me feel so happy!

The international day of yoga

(Twelfth week)

The international day of yoga is on June 21 but on June 15 it was celebrated in Ibagué with an event organized by the Municipal Hall and with yoga academies. It was in a park in which everybody could go and be in free yoga classes during all this afternoon. The programming of the event was so interesting, it included yoga lessons for the peace, for beginners and even for kids.

Apart from that, there was a little fair of entrepreneur companies with so interesting products like quartz, jewerly and natural food.

I really like to do yoga but for now I can’t do it frequently, so I love this kind of events because they encourage not only the yoga in this city but also a healthy and aware life in general, and I try to take advantage of those moments as much as I can. I spent almost all the day there and I really enjoyed it; the people were very kind and this park was beautiful, also I learned a lot and the weather was amazing this afternoon.

It seems like I was angry, but actually I was really focus on the class and the postures 😀

Mi favourite band

(Tenth week)

Morat is a Colombian band formed in Bogota. Its members are Juan Pablo Isaza, Juan Pablo Villamil and the brothers Simón Vargas and Martín Vargas. They are a Latin pop band and they began to stand out internationally in 2015, when their single «Mi nuevo vicio» came to light with the collaboration of Paulina Rubio.

They had 4 albums, the first one was «Grabado en madera» in 2015, then in 2016 was «Sobre el amor y sus efectos», in 2018 they released 2 albums called «Todos somos mas» and «Balas perdidas». Also, they had collaborated with many important singers like Paulina Rubio, Andrés Cepeda, Santiago Cruz, Alejandro Fernández, Paty Cantú, etc…

I am in love with all their songs, the lyrics are so beautiful and the rhythm is cool. Besides I love their voices, they sing with love and passion and I can feel those things with each song. On the other hand, I feel so proud because Morat is a Colombian band and it is worldwide recognized; the members have won many awards. I hope one day to go to a concert of them.

It was difficult for me to choose my favorite songs from them, but there are three songs that I really recommend of this band:

This song is special for me because it was my first favorite song of them and for that I feel in love with this band!
I love the meaning of this song, it makes me feel excited to do many things in my life. It’s like my hymn!

One of my hobbies

(Tenth week)

The photography is one of the things that I enjoy the most. I’m not an expert but I’m practicing it because I want to improve the quality of my pictures, neither I have a professional camera but I’m saving money to buy it this year. While that, I take pictures with the camera of my cellphone and I think this is a good way to learn and to practice.

What I like the most about photography is that through pictures I can catch good moments or things. Since I was child I liked it, I remember that my mom had an old camera roll and she got angry because I wasted it taking pictures without sence.

Most of the times I take pictures of the sky because is the most beautiful thing for me, I cannot describe what makes me feel. Those are my favourites:

Three weird things about my life

(ninth week)
  • I like to wake up with the sunlight

Most of people hate when the sunlight enter through their window and wakes them up, but I like when it happens! I don’t know exactly the reasons but I think is because it is a natural way to wake me up and it remembers me the beginning of a new day, also I like the sun of the morning.

  • I suffered from anger

Now I’m very happy and calmed but when I was a child (approximately when I was 8 months old) I was angry about everything and sometimes I fainted for that! or even I could drown for my breath. My family worried a lot because it wasn’t common in babys, but time later they learned to don’t make me get angry because if I continued faiting it could be bad for my health. Fortunately, those things only happened a few times.

  • I don’t like cold drinks neither hot food

Some people like to drink slush or juices with ice but I hate them, when I had to drink something with ice I wait for it to melt so I can drink. I don’t like the sensation of having a frozen mouth (or even my brain) and not being able to speak well. On the other hand, I don’t like when the food is so hot because it burns my tongue even if I blow the food, and for that I can’t appreciate well the taste of the food. For that reason I prefer the food and drinks in a «normal» temperature.

Things that I love about myself

(Ninth week)

Some days ago my english teacher did an activity that consisted in talk with our classmates about ourselves and I really loved it! It was such a beautiful activity because I learn interesting things about my friends and partners and I think those kind of activities help us to be closer. This activity inspired me to write more about myself and now I want to share the things that I love more about my personality because I thing this is most important than the physical.

  • Persistence

I consider myself a persistence person because if I want something I do everything I can to get it. I think it is related with the discipline because if you really want something you have to be disciplined doing things that will help you to reach what you want. For example, if your purpose is to lose weight, you have to be constant and persistence doing exercise and obviously disciplined to do it frequently. My mom told me since I was child «El que persevera alcanza» and I always have it in my mind.

  • Responsability

I know I’m responsable because I ever take into account the important things that I have to do, sometimes when I think I will foget something, I make a reminder and it help me not to forget anything, also, you could ask someone that remember you to do something. I think to be responsable it’s fundamental to organize your priorities and your time and to be focus on that.

  • Kindness

I consider myself a kind person because I always try to help, I think it doesn’t matter if is a small or big gesture of amiability, the importance is to help without receiving something in return. For example, few days ago I was in the toilet of the university waiting to a friend, and then a girl I didn’t know came in and she had a lot of books in her hands, the problem was that the toilet available had no lock to close the door, so I offered help and she accepted; I help her to hold her books and the door while she was inside the bathroom. I felt really good because she was really grateful with me and I know most of the times good actions improve the day of people. Also she was shocked when I offered help because unfortunately, now it’s not common to meet kind people. It is easy to help our friends but I think the really kindness is based on help unknown people too.

  • Happiness and gratitude

There are many things more that I love about myself but those are the principal things. I put happiness and gratitude in the same line because for me those things work together, since a time ago I started to focus on the good things and I realized that I had more good things in my life than bad ones, so I started to feel grateful with everything, also with the «bad» things and moments because those help me to progress and to be a better person. Since that moment my life change completely. I really know that when you feel grateful, immediately you start to feel happy!. Besides, I really love to be optimistic, it is related to be happy and persistence, now I’m still focusing on the good things and I’m so proud of that.

Religion vs spirituality

(eighth week)

Religion could be a controversial topic but I think is good to talk about it because it can be confused with spirituality. Most of the times, poeple think that the spirituality is based on the times that you go to the church or something like that. Bur for me, it is not necessarily related to religions.

At first, i’m going to clear out the meaning of religion. It is a set of rules and norms that were created by humans, initially, with the intention of love and to approach God. But unfortunately, with the passing of the years, that purpose was deteriorating. I think now some religions seems more like a doctrine that encourage intolerance, fear and sometimes hatred. It doesn’t mean that i’m against all religions, I think each religion have a good thing, the problem is when people misunderstand some words or writings about that, also, the level of fanaticism that they have, because with that, people usually tend to judge someone for not belonging to their religion or to not share their beliefs.

The spirituality could mean different things depend of each person but for me, it consists of doing good things that connect you to God (or whatever you believe in) and the universe; from help someone to be grateful. Because it doesn’t have sense if you go to the church every weekend but during the week you say, do and think bad things.

This topic is a bit extensive but in conclusion this is what I think. The idea is to be in a balance, and just do what make you feel better without harming anyone and create your own truth if you don’t feel identified with a specific religion but at the same time, you believe in God or in something superior to you. Remember that being spiritual is not always the same as being religious!.
